4. Tasers, though more expensive, are another option for a woman living alone. They are more effective than a stun gun in that they actually fire 2 prongs into the attacker, sending high voltage electricity through the wires attached to the prongs. These prongs can attach to the assailant through his clothes and will put him out of commission long enough for you to escape and get help.
Before purchasing pepper sprays, stun guns or tasers, be sure to check with your local police as to the laws concerning these products. In most cities and states they are legal, but there are restrictions in some areas and you don't want to acquire one of these non-lethal weapons and then find out you cannot legally use it.
